Erzsébet Janka Kiss: “I saw myself translating all kind of texts as a professional”

Although I am from Hungary, after graduating high school I’ve decided to continue my studies at Partium Christian University in Oradea as an English Language and Literature Major. And what a big decision it was! Not only have I fallen in love with the city and with this small but fascinating university, but I’ve also made many friends and gained lifelong experiences and knowledge. In 2015, I had the opportunity to spend one semester of my studies in Turkey through Erasmus+ scholarship which was the best adventure in my life.

My dream as a child was to become a translator and, when I had to choose between modules such as Media and Communications, and Translation and Interpretation, I saw myself translating all kind of texts as a professional. Needless to say, I’ve chosen the latter one where my favorite subjects were Translation Studies and Practical Translation. Thanks to the university and its amazing and always helpful professors, I hold a bachelor degree in English Language and Literature and, right after the graduation in 2016, I’ve started my MA studies in Multilingualism and Multiculturalism. During my studies I also had the opportunity to start working as a translator at a local translation bureau with international clients such as Bayer, Ipsos, Alcatel, and Lego. I have been working there as a project manager and in-house translator for three years now, which would have not been the case, had I not gained the necessary know-how and expertise during my studies at PCU.
